# Lázár István Torockó, 1742. szeptember 3. – Kolozsvár, 1811. október 7. *unitárius püspök, bölcseleti doktor, kollégiumi tanár, egyházi író* Lázár Mihály és Pozsgai Anna fia. A torockói unitárius iskolában kezdte tanulmányait, Kolozsváron végezte a teológiát 1756-ban, aztán Marosvásárhelyen jogot tanult. 1768-ban az erdélyi királyi tábla belgiumi akadémiákra küldi közköltségen. 1771-ben külföldi tanulmányútra ment. Bécsben, Amszterdamban és Leidenben hallgat teológiát és bölcsészetet. Leidenban 1775-ben bölcseleti doktorrá avatják. 1776-ban tér haza és a kolozsvári unitárius főiskola tanára, később rektora lett. Az 1786. évi nagyajtai zsinaton püspökké választották.
